Here we go! - new to blogging
This cpd23 course is an excellect opportunity to force me to investigate things I feel slightly wary of. The fact it is measured out in bite size chunks helps me to feel less daunted. I have very nearly finished by library qualifaction at UCL and have half a module to complete which I can't do until next year. This is a brilliant way to continue learning and developing in the meantime.
I currently work part time as a librarian for a social care research unit at the University of Kent and previously worked as an archivist. On the plus side this means I have: loads of experience of customer service and managing information in different environments, a clear idea of the needs of researchers and the issues within the research environment and a good knowledge of sources for health and social care. On the negative side I lack: experience of day to day work in a big library and of library management systems. Ideally I would like a "proper" library job in an academic, social care or NHS library.
I am also a little weary of being the sole librarian and would welcome having professional colleagues to bounce ideas off and progress with. Maybe blogging will help with this. My research colleagues face continual pressure to increase the impact of their research. They have a vague idea that social media may be useful, so I am hoping this course may give me some more concrete ideas.
